Coaching

Ali as Snow White at DisneyworldAli's Musical Theatre Workshop Master classes are designed to teach students to be creatively independent. During this fun and exciting class, students will sharpen their artistic talents and skills so that they can create their own show-stopping auditions and theatre performances by themselves and ultimately book jobs. This workshop is designed to give auditioning students the confidence to succeed in educational and professional theatre.

There are two different classes, which can either take place during the day as a regular class period, or after school as an extra-curricular sign-up.

Audition Techniques I:
The first class is a one-class period or 1.5 hour after-school course, allowing for several classes during the day, each class learning the same techniques. It focuses on audition basics.

  • Tools and tips on how to care for your voice.
  • How to research the role.
  • How to prepare sheet music and interact with the accompanist.
  • What to do inside the room.
  • In addition, each student will prepare a 16-bar song selection for a mock audition.

Audition Techniques II Master Class:
This 2-class period or 3 to 4-hour after-school course includes a more in-depth look at auditioning, with feedback on each student’s audition performance. This course is designed to take place over a two-day period.

DAY ONE

A true mock audition situation: students will prepare a 16-bar selection and be ready for callbacks the following day. Callback materials will be provided.

DAY TWOIt Came From Beyond

  • The Callback
  • How to nail cold readings.
  • Learning a song on the spot with harmonies.
  • Scenes will be provided for this mock-callback day.
  • Students may also learn a new piece of music if time provides.

Teachers can choose between a mock music callback or a mock
scene work callback if time is an issue.

Private Audition Coaching: ($75/ hour)
Designed for the student auditioning for college, this private session with Ali includes a work session on any audition material the student is already preparing. Ali's private sessions cover technique, audition and performance preparation, including emotional and presentational approaches to all material. This coaching includes both musical and non-musical material.

Students will be responsible for providing either an accompanist or a CD of their music without vocals; if there are several students, perhaps the school can provide an accompanist for an afternoon or evening.
